Education, key to the future, Los Angeles, 1986, Betty Plasencia Elementary School, exterior courtyard, Temple Street (between Douglas and East Edgeware), Echo Park. Ancient Mexican god observing two contemporary Latino students reading. There are two other exterior murals at the school. One, done by Mary Suarez in 1977 under the auspices of the Citywide Mural Project, depicts silhouettes of children holding hands.
